GDG- A couple of questions for the ordnance-savy

Well, here's some figures and you can do the math. The Blakeslee 6-tube
cartridge box weighed 1 lb. 6 oz. empty, and 4 lb. 9 oz. loaded. Each tube
held 7 cartridges so a loaded 6-tuber Blakesles contained 42 rounds of
ammunition.

The 10-tube Blakeslee was 1 lb. 14 oz. / 7 lb. 3 oz.

The 13-tube was 2 lbs. 11 oz. / 9 lb. 9 oz.

Here's some additional information you may find useful. Each Spencer bullet
(just the LEAD bullet) weighed about 350 grains. The powder charge was 45
grains. There are 7,000 grains to the pound. Sorry, I don't know how much
the empty brass cartridge case weighed.

As to how many to the "case", I guess it depends what you mean by a case. A
Spencer cartridge "packet" (about the size of a small brick) held six
cardboard packets of seven rounds each. If you mean the wooden shipping
crate from the arsenal, I don't know, but probably about 1,000 rounds to a
case. If I come across that exact figure I'll repost.
