GDG- Preservation: Rebuilding demolished houses?

Chuck,

If the NPS gave the idea of replacing destroyed buildings and complete
restoration was not feasible, I think that would be an acceptable
alternative. At least it would show that a house actually stood there.

Another example is the Rogers house on Emmitsburg Road. If you do not
notice the sign, you would not know a house once stood there.

Tom,

What about putting up just a frame to indicate that a building had been
there, without filling in the details?

<<I'm pretty sure everyone has a little different idea of preservation, but
there are at least 3 significant farmhouses on the field that are now
(mostly) gone: Bliss, Timbers and McPherson. What is the NPS (or others)
view on rebuilding these houses and outbuildings?>>

As Jim said earlier, the NPS position is not to rebuild those places already
gone. I would think that is a financial decision, since the cost would be
quite steep. However, one consideration would be a public-private
partnership similar to what was done with the new VC.
