When was the soldier in the RR cut found? Wasn't he found in the 1990s?

Thanks
Andy

Hi Mike,
You've asked an excellent question which has arisen inmost of our minds at one time or another. It occurred to me when in the 1950s some bones were found in the Eisenhower flower beds. The best reference I know of for the fate of the Confederate remains is Gregory Coco's book, "A Strange and Blighted Land" Keep tuned in to the GDG and someone else more knowledgeable than me will give you guidance.

I live in Gettysburg and I've read the many stories about the Confederate dead being disinterred after the battle and reburied down South at a later date. I often have visitors to my home ask me if there are corpses still out there on the field and don't have an answer for them. I just got done reading the Wert book on the third day of the battle and he mentions about how Garnett's body was not discovered and probably was buried in a mass grave somewhere. Have there been any statistics published showing how many of the deceased were reinterred or how many are presumed to still be on the field? Not to be morbid, but I've not heard a definitive answer to this question in the many Gettysburg books I've read.

Thanks,
Mike Brubaker
