GDG- Gettysburg draws 2.9 million visitors each year

Greetings

One thing that's being overlooked here is how Gettysburg has changed over the years. Over the last say 20 years look how much the area has grown. Lots of new homes and businesses, motels, theaters, outlet shops etc. So now there is more then just the battle field to lure tourists to the area. This is an issue that the survey seems to be addressing.

Here in Lancaster Pa. we have our share of Outlets also and they to have increased tourism. Many tourists who come to Lancaster now don't care about the Amish or the History of the area I believe you are starting to see the same in Gettysburg.

With increasing tourism from outside sources, more pressure is put on the historical resources that bought tourism to the area to begin with. Sometimes the price of success is quite high.

When the survey says ( Sounds like "Family Feud") 2.9 million visitors per year just what does that mean, 2.9 mill. people, or 2.9 mill visits?

  Jeff

Dennis: I agree with your post. But I would venture to say that perhaps the wording in the article was ill chosen; and could have been explained without presenting to some, such as myself, as sexist. From one who has experienced sexism in tours, it is still there (though I will admit much less these days).
