Thanks for the reply about the derivation of the corps badge. Do you have
an any response to the the question below about the color of the badge?

Thanks for the clarification and explanation about the trefoil.
In one chart I have, it shows the colors of the badges are red, white, and
blue for the First, Second and Third Division of a corps respectively.
Since Smyth was a member of the Third Division, Second Corps, does that mean
he would have been wearing a blue trefoil? In the black and white
photograph, the badge actually looks white, but that may be because of the
way blue comes through in a B & W photo.
