More seriously, memoirs of color guard participants. A good starting point
would be Peter Walsh, _Irish Green and Union Blue: The Civil War Letters Of
Peter Walsh, Color Sergeant, 28th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers_
(Fordham, 1986).
