GDG- Pipe Creek where are the maps?

I believe that the initial discussion was driven by Sickles claim that
he kept Meade from withdrawing to Pipe creek. Kind of like the "Caspian
sea of ink" on the attack at dawn that was never an issue until after
the war.

Esteemed GDG Member Contributes:

I am totally confounded by rhe interest this group has in pipe creek a
never was issue. This particulary confuses me as the specific impact
this contingency plan had on AoP operations at GB is obscure at best.
Could someone please state succinctly the basis for the group's intense
interest in the possible AoP defense line along Pipe Creek?

I'll pick up a copy of the book this weekend.

I found my magazine (home with strep). may/june 2000 Mercators World. I
was
thinking of his valley map-1862-parts of which are reflected in the so
called invasion map.

It wasn't an invasion map at all, but a theater map designed to reflect
the
area of opeations of the ANV/AoP theater, which did not exist on a
military
basis at that time. During the same period, the WAr Department prepared
4 (I
believe) detailed maps of the same area. This was just prudent
preperation.

Hotchkiss was Jackson's mapmaker, in effect and he did indeed seal
Hotchkiss
with the "profound secret" pledge, but everything was a secret with
Jackson.

Isn't he the guy that got lost because he could not bring himself to
tell
his guide where he wanted to go?

The Atlas maps are ok, but they lack the detail, because the scale is so

greatly diminished. OTOH, if the work you cite above shows the property
owners. This map is over three feet across and longer than that. Which
is
why I am dubious of any Atlas reproduction.

BTW: I am unable to find any copies of the unit maps, simply a
reference. It
was easier to find good map copies of Lee's retreat.

Has any one ever seen them? Or even know their names?

Regards,

Jack
