Bob: futility is my middle name, bro! Who made Reynolds Wing Commander anyway? If Reynolds accepted command, wouldn't he have had a little more time to organize than Meade did? I recall he actually went to DC to turn it down. No? Seems you had a group of guys who thought the world of each other, Reynolds, Meade, Hancock. I'm probably wrong, but it seems likely that Reynolds would have given Meade an expanded role, Wing Commander, Chief of staff? You guy's know better than me, obviously, Whats likely or not.
And I'm serious about the other question, about Lee and Pickets Hair. I thought Pickets problems with Lee all had to do with the destruction of his command, but it sounds now like there might have been a bit of History there. In my experience, it's never really a good thing for the boss to mock his subs for the amusement of the locals or his staff. Tends to engender hard feelings and dark thoughts of retribution. Not generally considered productive in the long run.
Hope your feeling better.

Keith,
My first thought was no way, wrong corps. Reynolds was the wing commander
over the I, III, and XI corps and I'm guessing that if Reynolds had taken
command of the army, someone from one of those corps would have been under
that tree. Or probably not under that tree.
Sure changes things in a hurry and why "what-ifs" are fun, but futile.
By the way, History Channel said it was a sniper who killed Reynolds. I
forget how far away it was - 700 yards, 900 yards, possibly sitting in a
tree in Chambersburg... I can't remember. But I was happy to have that
mystery solved! ;)
