Subject: Rodes- What was his problem?
First thanks to those who gave me some book reccomendations. I really appreciate it and will put them on my list.
Now back to the first day part of the battle.
I wonder why Rodes did what he did on all three days of the battle.
1. Why did he attack Oak Ridge with his least experienced commanders, without coordination, Iverson and Oneal and not his best Generals, Daniel and Ramseur?
2. Why did he not assist in the attack on Cemetery Hill by Avery and Hays? Why was he not in position sooner? What the heck was he doing all day on July 2nd?
3. Perhaps most perplexing what was he doing during Pickets charge. He sat in the "sunken "Rode"" ( Sorry) and watched as Brockenbrough and Davis got slaughtered. He at least could have taken out the 8th Ohio. and taken away there enfilading fire. What was his excuse?
Mike T.
