Alan, there are 5 including the bronze relief on the New York monument in
the National Cemetery. They were erected by those that served under JFR
during the war. In the minds of those that fought and the historians that
study the battle, yes JFR is simply overlooked.

As for the many that visit Gettysburg he is simply forgotten. The simple
fact is that since JFR was killed, his deeds and wisdom that July 1, day are
passed on to others. Others that were praised for the decisions that John
Reynolds made.

I have been asked many times why JFR has so many statues, most wonder this
since he was killed shortly after the battle began. They want to know what
effect he could have possibly had on the battle, only being on the field for
ten to fifteen minutes? Where does this sort of question come from?

While I do agree with you that you and I have not forgotten JFR, I beg to
differ when it comes to the majority. Stand out by the "fell marker" any
given Saturday or Sunday in July or August and talk with people that visit.
You'll be amazed at the conversations you can have. Most people have no clue
who John Reynolds was!

Anthony

Hm, how many statues to Reynold's are in the park... Overlooked
sometimes, perhaps, but forgotten!?!?
