Jean, there are crowds at the anniversary walks, but the programs are well done and worth the trouble. There are also a series of "real-time" programs on the three days as well, which attempt to cover aspects of the battle in the timeframe that they occurred, and they will probably have fewer attendees than the walks at 10, 2 and 6. In fact, none of the "big" walks cover Culp's Hill, so you would have to use the real-time programs to hear about the action that took place there. There is no information currently on the park's website, but there certainly will be soon. Because of the re-enactments in the area, hotel rooms will be booked rapidly.

Subject: GDG- Need to know

Esteemed GDG Member Contributes:

  Hello,

I'm one of those that reads, but rarely asks the many questions that come to mind as I go thru all the submissions.  Evidently there will be ranger talks on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of July and although I have been to Gettysburg many times before, on many private tours, I am debating about attending the 3rd's talk/walk.  Do you think it will be even more crowded due to the holiday AND the weekend reenactment?  I have enjoyed the one on one tours I've been on, one of which was with Mr. Wachsmuth.  That was a great learning experience.
I'm not one for crowds-one of the reasons I won't be at the reenactment-but one of the areas I'm very interested in is Culp's Hill's battle on the evening of the 2nd and morning of the 3rd, and Cemetery Hill's struggle on the 2nd.  Is it worth fighting the crowds to go to the talks?  The local folks probably welcome the revenues, but is it worth the effort fighting the crowd (if there is one)?

Your thoughts...??

thanks
Jean
