"Descended the ridge and passed through a very pretty town called Front Royal, memorable by the action inflicted upon Banks by the immortal Stonewall Jackson. Here we were regaled by the vision of some very beautiful ladies who waved their hankies to us as we passed. 
Bivouacked in a grass and clover field and had a fine meal. The men are now standing the march very well."
