Thanks George for posting the above from the mission statement of the Arts  
Festival organisers. I suspect most of us "regular" visitors to Gettysburg 
never  really give a thought to the park and it's contents as works of art but in  
reality it must be one of the biggest and most diverse sculpture parks in the 
 world if not the biggest and covering a century and a half of  artistry.
 
Some of the monuments in the park would grace any setting in the world  
simply as works of art but find out the history behind the statue and why a  
particular piece is where it is and frequently even ordinary bronzes spring to  
life. 
 
I wonder how many "artists" have gained an appreciation of what happened at  
Gettysburg through studying the artwork? I know it has worked the other way 
for  me,
