John,
    Not much excitement in Sharpsburg.  Try Nutter's ice cream store in town for some great and inexpensive ice cream.  Nearby is the C&O canal and Harpers Ferry if you are interested.  You can rent inner tubes near Harpers Ferry and float down the Potomac or Shennandoah.   There is a Civil War Medical Museum in Frederick. You can also go swimming at the Greenbrier State Park which is not far.
