Recently, I came across a mention that because of the sadness its playing engendered in Southern troops that the playing of Lorena was banned in some Southern units. Is anyone aware if this is another touching myth of the ACW or if it has a basis in fact. As Southern troops were noted for having a strong aversion to following what they considered to be unreasonable orders, I have my doubts as to whether such an order prohibiting the playing of the ACW's most popular song in a much more romanyic era could have been accomplished. Nevertheless, I'm interested if anyone else has either heard this legend or knows of some valid historiographical information that supports it?
