This is strange. I found a listing for a Pvt. H.W. Green, Co. E, 146th
N.Y. who died at Salisbury Prison, Salisbury, NC on January 26, 1865. Is it
likely that there were two men with the same last name, same first two
initials in the same company, same regiment and both died in January 1865?
Teej,
By 1865, if my information is correct, Green should have been a Sgt. But
putting that info aside, the only other gentleman with the Green surname, that I
found in Company E was Charles Green, who was transferred into the outfit
from the 5th NY. (Mortimer Green also came from the 5th NY & was unassigned.) A
Samuel Green, of Company H, died on 111 May 1865 in Washington DC of wounds
he received on 31 March 1865 at White Oak Road.
Respectfully,
Mike Peters
