GDG- Alexander's recon on July 2

After receiving orders from Lee on the morning of July 2 to attack the Union
left flank, Longstreet placed E.P. Alexander in charge of his artillery and
sent him reconoitter the area where the attack would take place, Alexander
later wrote that he examined all the roads leading to the right and front of
the Confederate lines, and reconnoitered the enemy position to determine the
best approaches to make an attack. He then road back to place his batteries
into position.

However, I do not find any reference to Alexander actually reporting his
findings to either Longstreet or Lee. It would seem that the information
about approaches to the left and the position of the enemy in the late
morning would have been important, if not critical, to the success of
Longstreet's mission.

Does anyone know whether Alexander made a report of his findings, and, if
not, why not? It should be noted that Alexander said that he had "a courier
or two" with him during his reconnaissance, therefore he had an opportunity
to send a report back to Longstreet and Lee (see Fighting for the
Confederacy, pp. 235-36).
