Hi,

In looking back on this issue, I noticed that LTC Doster, in his OR
report, stated that at noon he was directed to move with his regiment to
Gettysburg, and report to Pleasonton.

The message from Pleasonton to Gregg, directing him to send a regiment
to replace Buford was written at 1345. Even considering the
inaccuracies of time then, that is still an hour and three quarters
difference, not even considering the time it would take for Pleasonton's
courier to reach Gregg, and then for Gregg to notify Doster.

Since the time on Pleasonston's message to Gregg is in the message, it
is probably more accurate, then Doster was considerably off regarding
the time he received the order.
Unless that is the case, it would seem doubtful that the 4th PA was
intended to replace Buford.

Doster's report was written 4 August, 1863, I do not know when his
memoirs were written.

Maybe Eric or J.D. can shed some light on the time discrepancy?

VR, Rick Schaus
