Tom et al.,

"How active is the CWPT in attempting to preserve
some of this land?" related to the period from
July 4-14, 1863).

I can tell you only my end of it. I am sure JD,
Eric and others call say more beyond Falling
Waters, Maryland.

The Battle of Falling Waters 1863 Foundation
Inc.'s first project is trying to get 7 acres of
pristine battlefield land which recently went on
the market. Actually there are now several
parcels for sale but this one is farmland (with
no structures on it) and is on the actual sight
of July 14 fighting. More to follow on that
soon.

While the 1863 Battle of Falling Waters (there is
some confusion due to the 1861 skirmish in WVa
sometimes going by the same name) is on the
CWPT's "radar screen" it did not get within the
top 25 most endandered Civil War battlefields for
2008 as it has in 2007. We plan to submit again
for 2009 and also work with a number of other
local, state and national battlefield and
historic preservation organizations. The goals
are both land presevation and education.

I believe in spite of some great scholarship
lately, alot more can and needs to be done in the
areas of both preservation and education related
to the period July 4-14, 1863 outside of
Gettysburg but related to that phase of the
campaign.

I am open to comments, suggestion, etc here or
off-line at ggatsby79 at yahoo.com
