“Got into line at five A.M. and marched nearly all day went about fifteen mile are now in Penna York County within five or six miles from the rebels expect to get into a fight to morrow heard some firing in our front this evening sent the baggage wagon all to the rear we expecting to march nearly all night weather pleasant all day.”

"A cloudy day.  We have orders to prepare 3 days rations & be ready to march at a moments warning.  Orders came to be ready to leave at 4 O’clock.  Soon the drum beat & all in lines.  Our Brigade (Benning’s) in front.  We passed through the village of Fayetteville.  Here we took the Chambersburg and Baltimore turnpike.    After marching all night we stoped at 4 O’clock and rested 3 hours. “
