Hello All - The question regarding the author you would like to talk to, my split vote is with Shelby Foote and Batchelder.
When I worked at the Gettysburg Times, I met Foote briefly and called him later for a quote. Yes, he seemed like a curmudgeon, but as long as he talked with that wonderful accent, he could tell me anything he wanted to say! He even seemed a bit confused by my question.
I would like to talk to Batchelder for the little tidbits he might reveal from his talks with generals, etc.
In other news, I have something too horrible to say, But, being the newshound that I am, here goes. This involves a man I met and it's very sad. A group of us met for breakfast at The Avenue one wonderful morning. This man was one of my tablemates. He later wrote a book regarding Civil War collections and I was honored with a request to review on small section on which I happen to know a great deal about. I found an error, made a suggestion and that was the last I heard until today. I enclose a link for you to follow.

Forced to choose among the three you named, Foote would probably be my
last
choice because, notwitstanding his writing ability, he came across as a
sort
of a curmudgeon. Between the other two, I would have to go with
Bachelder
primarily because he lived during the time period, and knew just about
everyone of importance related to the battle or at least had contact by
mail
with many of them.
