GDG- Shelby Foote

Shelby Foote's Narrative was the first overall history of the Civil War, and the second, third and fourth ACW books I that I read.  I enjoyed it immensely.  It ignited my interest in the ACW and prompted me to read several different battle histories.
   
  Now, 25 years or so, and several detailed studies later, I am completing my second read of Foote's Narrative.  My knowledge level is several notches higher, and I can certainly see some of the issues mentioned in this tread.  At times, I think Foote could rival Faulkner for long, convoluted sentences.  Never-the-less, it is still a good read, and a great introduction to this conflict.
