I have been working on a web site which right now uses Google Maps to
implement a map of the monuments at Gettysburg. I also provide a picture
and have transcribed the text from the monuments. It can be found at
http://www.EncounterAtGettysburg.com
. Right now it has pictures and text from about 750 monuments. I also hope
to enhance the user interface to include searching by order of battle, day
of the battle, word search of the monument text, etc. But that is in the
future. I am interested in comments and suggestions on the site if anyone
has them.

Also, I have recently added a photo album capability and a wiki to the site.
These have been integrated into my web site, and you can access them by
clicking on the links in the bubbles on the Google Map when you select a
monument, but are also stand alone applications. Right now, however, they
have very little information in them. The real purpose of this email is to
see if I can get people interested in posting pictures or wiki content to
the site.

Photos can be recent or historical pictures you might have of the monuments,
battlefield, or town and surrounding area. I would be happy to open other
albums if you have any other photos you would like to add.

The wiki includes place holders for information about the units at the
battle as well important people and places for the battle, or important to
the history of Gettysburg. The idea is to create a sort of Gettysburg
Encyclopedia in a web based format.

The site is free. To update the information will require registration, but
that is only to control who updates the content, and I will be thrilled to
provide user ids to anyone interested in helping with this undertaking.
Since the site is web based the limits on content would be whatever the
community building the site feels is appropriate, the only limitation being
that it be related to the history of Gettysburg.

If anyone is interested in visiting my site, or registering for an account,
please visit the site or contact me at ckann at comcast.net.

Thanks.
