Andy, It was carved by the "fiery finger of hell" by a Gettysburg ghost. Ok sorry I stole that line from Garry Adelman. Adelman and Smith's Devil's Den book has some good information on the rock carvings in that area, perhaps expanding on JD's post. - Bob
