Tim,
Being unable to decipher the specific intent of your message, I will respond
to what appears to be the spirit of its plea. My recommendation is to sit
down with the three parts of OR Volume 27 on Gettysburg (paper or CD), and
read it all the way through. Highlight the main points of each message or
report, and tabulate the information that you find to be surprisingly new
(i.e., somehow previously escaped your attention).
You will come away, I suspect, with a whole new perspective and a greater
appreciation for what actually took place over that two-month period. You
will also learn that the three days at Gettysburg were just one aspect of a
much greater series of events that together comprised a very active campaign.
What you will gain from this experience is a richer understanding of the inter-
relationship of a multitude of actions, events, skirmishes, and battles small
and large. In other words, there is a lot more to Gettysburg than we are
aware of from discussing the subject on the GDG.
Regards, Tom Ryan
