OK, in the ANV mindset, perhaps, it's a minor encounter.  But, these guys in
blue aren't cavalry or militia; it's AoP were there should be no AoP.  And
noone says what's up?  >>

The two armies had been by that time been in contact for over 24 hours, and
active skirmishing was taking place.  A foray such as Berdan recon wouldn't
necessarily have been seen as anothign too out of the ordinary, IMO.
