I believe the Electric Map has always been in the building that is now
the VC. However, the original location was where the artillery display
is now located (where one looks down on the Napoleon and caisson). The
current location was added on for additional seating capacity, as well
as additional display area for the artifacts. I believe the Map was
also upgraded at that time. Also, before the automatic light/narrative
controls were added, an operator would give the oral presentation while
manually operating/switching the lights.
My aged brain thinks that the relocation happened in the late 50's.

My aging brain may be playing tricks on me, but wasn't the Electric Map
located in a different place before the NPS took over the current VC
building?
Was it in Charlie Weavers museum? I think I vaguely remember seeing it
there. If
so, how did they move it to the VC 40+ years ago? Could it then be
moved out
the same way?
