To follow up on this, Shaara did such a good job with the Harrison character
in his spy role, it would have been interesting to see what he would have
done with John Babcock, a civilian with the BMI who was sent as a spy into
Maryland to track Lee's army. Babcock could arguably be credited or blamed,
depending on how you look at it, for causing the separation of Jeb Stuart
from the Army of Northern Virginia, and, some would say, thereby causing the
Confederate defeat at Gettysburg.
Everyone knows who John Babcock is, right?

Subject: Characters in Killer Angels
Has anyone noticed that the Afterword in Killer Angels lists twelve
characters on the Confederate side and only three for the Union. One of
those three is not George Meade.
Not to start a second Civil War, but what does that say about the writer and
about George Meade? What other Union personalties deserve more prominence,
besides Buster Kilrain?
I would say that Col. George Sharpe of the Army of the Potomac's Bureau of
Military Information should have been included in the story and the list of
heroes, except that no one had any idea who he was when this book was
written.
