Buford Avenue on the Gettysburg Battlefield

                          To Close for Two Weeks

Beginning Wednesday, February 6, historic Buford Avenue on the Gettysburg

National Military Park will close for approximately two weeks, National

Park Service officials have announced.

The closure is necessary to allow access for a crane which will dismantle

the 6th New York Cavalry monument which was severely damaged by lightning

strike on October 9, 2007. The crane is dissembling the monument as the

first step in rebuilding and repairing it.

Cars following the auto tour route will be rerouted to Doubleday Avenue and

Robinson Avenue. Busses following the auto tour route will be rerouted to

Herr’s Ridge Road to Mummasburg Road. The National Park Service will reopen

Buford Avenue on Saturday and Sundays during the period.
