A whole lot  better than the numbered endnotes where the top of the endnote
page says only that they are for chapter III. Who knows what chapter number
you are reading?

Yes that is a problem.  I notice that more recently publishers are placing
the related page numbers of the text at the top of the end note pages, while
some are including the chapter titles and numbers in the end notes.  The
former method is preferable, but the latter also holps.
