<<My humble contribution to the link between Lincoln and King and the
aftermath of the war. .

Great essay Dennis! May I use it in my classes?
If it doesn't rain Saturday - I will be in Gettsyburg and hopefully getting to the VC. (It is the Delaware Valley CWRT's adopt a position clean up day - so if it rains, it will be the following Sat. If anyone is in town and wants to say hello - we will be on East Cemetery Hill around 10AM. So I will hold off any comments on the VC until I see it myself.
However, in terms of MLK and Gettysburg/Lincoln - well your essay states it best - obviously, King was working to correct the injustices that were not corrected by the Civil War and subsequent "Jim Crow" laws and "Plessy vs. Ferguson" etc.
I have used King's " Letter From a Birmingham Jail" in school to get students thinking about laws and their meaning. The letter is exceptional and unfortunately, the same King quotes are used over and over again, such as his "I have a Dream" speech, and not enough of his other writings are used.
