What bothers me most about it, is his pure arrogance that everything is about Mike and what is best for Mike (not thinking Gettysburg is really an area for everyone to enjoy because of its historical significance). He only thinks about himself. He moved from an area to escape urban blight then complains about the small town feel about the area to which he moves, and proposes that the area become exactly what he moved to escape, and in the process, destroying anything historically significant in the process just to appease himself so that he isn't inconvienced.
What do people expect when they move to areas such at Gettysburg? If I moved to the historic triangle of Virginia, should I expect a Target next to the Governor's Mansion just so I don't have to drive 20 minutes out of town and fight the traffic. It would be so much easier for me to have one right there.
Thanks
Andy

Since Mike replied to me off line with GDG - I am forwarding this for
posting. I don't believe spending 1 week in a hotel was real research
before you move somewhere, but then research is my living. I would also
ask Mike and others to look at the Daniel Lady farm which runs from
Route 116 to the water tower - 145 acres that was saved and is still a
working farm! Sometimes you have to shut your eyes and think about what
took place somewhere and envision it. The monuments tell a story as
does the Camp Letterman monument. Sometimes we have to read and then
look and see.

Would you like to put the tents up - perhaps dying and wounded soldiers
could be laid around the area for a virtual reality.
Mike you live in an area of truly hallowed ground - not only is GBPA
working to save some of it but also the park service and others. We are
not trying to save it all but are working very closely with the
developers to save a portion. The rest will be planted with lots of
houses on the landscape for all to see including an area called "New
Town Gettysburg" with shopping and houses/townhouses. I will be in
Gettysburg tomorrow working with some folks - perhaps you would like to
meet up with us and walk that area where so much took place. You can
reach me on my cell phone at 717-329-8512 and I'll be glad to give you a
history lesson.
This is why people come to Gettysburg and spend their money and support
the local economy. Also, just for your information, Route 30 will be
expanded to 5 lanes between Route 15 and the borough line at Rock creek
where it will choke down to 2 lanes going into the borough - get out the
roller skates, might make going to Hanover a walk in the park.

Well, my wife is going to be disappointed to hear about no Target.
She's in the local Mom's Club with about 40 other local Mom's and they
were all excited about Target coming because it's nicer and cleaner than
Walmart for shopping. But, I guess I'll be anxiously awaiting the plans
the GBPA has for Camp Letterman in the next few years. I certainly hope
we have something other than a vacant scrub-filled lot in that spot 10
years from now, or a Target will start looking mighty good!
