I thought that was very clear.  It was a followthrough on the "new birth of freedom" mentioned in the Gettysburg address and how that worked out between then and now.  In addition, the culmination of the 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington didn't end up at the Lincoln Memorial just because it's a really big public space.
