On the issue of Lincoln's legitimacy, the author points out that the idea
that Nancy Hanks conceived her son out of wedlock at all doesn't jibe with the
verifiable data. Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks were married on June 12,
1806. Abraham was their second child, born in 1809. His older sister was born
in 1807.
>From what I have read, the notion of Abe Lincoln having been born in NC to
an unmarried Nancy Hanks requires that we accept the idea that he was actually
about four years older than what is usually understood -- and that people who
knew him as a child somehow overlooked this additional four years of age,
merely concluding that young Abe was "big for his age".
