David: I know the person who now owns the land that once belonged to Matthews in Yellow Hill. He has done some research on the land. He works in the historic preservation field, so knows how to do research. He has seen the reference you mention also.
BTW, I tried to privately email you, but it bounced even though I copied and paste your address in the to line.

to be where blacks lived - hence the name, "Yellow" was a reference to mulattoes
in the 19th century - so there is logic that fugitives could have been guided
