GDG- One man's restoration is another's destruction.

Dennis,
I don't think I questioned their motivations. I am baffled by their tactics in this instance. And, while I firmly believe one should fight for what one believes is right, there are times when defeat must be recognized.
Regardless, one of my constant points throughout the various controversies regarding the GNMP in the last 10+ years is that one can disagree with someone's position, one can even believe they are flat-out wrong, without impugning their motivations and sincerity. If one disagrees with another's position, then the best way to do it is through advocating a well-researched position of one's own rather than ad hominem attacks. That's why I admire the ACHP recommendation so much. It didn't trash anyone; it simply stated that a choice had to be made and why they believed that the NPS had made the correct choice.
In this instance, I have no doubt that the building's supporters sincerely believe that the NPS decision is wrong and the building should be saved. I disagree with them.
Regards,
Margaret
