GDG- Saving the old VC

Bob,
absolutely true! Look around on the battlefield or at a muster and the overwhelming majority of participants are lily-white, overweight, middle-aged men with facial hair. We do need to bring the story of this battle and this conflict to other listeners.

Note my smiley face! Sarcasm is sometimes hard to express on discussion
groups!
There have been numerous attempts to defeat the movement of the VC and the
abandonment of the Cyclorama, discussed ad nauseum here and elsewhere.
Some is the debate over *what* historical buildings should be preserved. The
Cyclorama architect's family and friends have been claiming that the
building is a national treasure, equal to the Parthenon, and tearing it down
is a crime against humanity.
Some is related to efforts by members of the Rosenstock family -- I assume
those who did not share in the proceeds from the sale --- to keep every
little place exactly where Grandpa had it.
And, often hidden, are the efforts of the Lost Cause supporters who have
been trying to get rid of Latscher almost since he arrived. The Dastardly
Superintendent has argued that slavery was the cause -- and further that we
old white guys are getting fewer and fewer and if GBNMP is to survive -- and
receive Federal and State funding, it will have to attract -- Horrors! --
women and non-Old White Guys. :>)
Take care,
 Bob

I am pretty sure that there was a law suit that was filed by someone arguing
the park service should not be allowed to tear down the old Cyclorama
Center. I know some rangers and volunteers were talking about it when I was
there last summer. I do not know any details though.
