[RE]GDG- New Visitor Center

Hey Chuck:

I got a tour last week (wearing a hard hat as well) as I volunteer with John Heiser in the park research library. They were just beginning to put artifacts into the museum exhibits, but I was very impressed with what I saw. I loved the fact that there will be a separate entrance for bus tours (huzzah!), but hated the Java Cafe in the lobby (boo, hiss!) Lots to like, but some design flaws really irk me. Luckily, I will in GB next week as well, for the park's biennial seminar and will be acompanying a friend (who is a local - I'm not, I live in California) and so will get several more looks at what looks to be a much more fitting memorial to the events that took place on those farm fields in July 1863. Now I am really looking forward to the demolishing of the old VC and Cyclo and the restoration (as far as is possible) of Cemetery Ridge.

And hey, I am just still singing praises to the CW god that put a quote from "my guy" - Richard B. Garnett - on the wall entering the 3rd day exhibit area.

Regards,

Kathy

Esteemed GDG Member Contributes:

The new Visitor Center opens in a little over a week, and I thought I would
remind locals that it will be open to the community on next Thursday evening
for those who can stop by. Thursday evening will be a mad house, but it is
the first chance to see the new place if you are local.

Since I am a volunteer, I got to see if for the first time today (we had to
wear hard hats as they were still waiting for some approvals). It is
impressive. There are a lot of great exhibits, and it is a really nice
place. I really hope that after some people visit it that we can discuss it
here.
