GDG- Motorcycle ride for Gettysburg

The one and only thing that bothers me about motorcycles in Gettysburg is the loudness of them on the battlefield. There are probably still the remains of hundreds of young Americans lying beneath the soil, all over the battlefield. Not all bodies were found when the re-internments were done. It was just a few years ago that remains of a young man were found at the railroad cut.

Many motorcycles are loud. Many motorcyclists like them because they are loud. But there are certain places and times where loudness does not belong. Would you shout in the middle of a funeral? Would you drive through a cemetery with your car windows down and your radio playing at max volume? The entire battlefield is a cemetery. Cycles on Route 15 are fine. But the roads on the battlefield are not there for vehicle traffic - they are there to enable you to visit this unique and somber place. The battlefield can be visited on foot, or on the bus.

I no longer give tours during Harley Weekend, for the above reasons. I also recommend people to avoid that weekend for visits to the battlefield.
