Loud wasn't the word for it. Although for a great cause, this small
community cannot handle too many more of these types of events. The
innocent everyday tourist who arrives on days like yesterday vow never to
return.
I remember back in '86 during my first trip out West I arrived in Sturgis SD
to discover that there was a vast bikers convention going on. A day or so
later, I pulled into a little highway pull-off that featured a historical
marker pointing out the ruts across the prairie left from an old wagon route to
the Black Hills, and immediately after me pulled in a pair of Harley Davidsons
ridden by the toughest, dirtiest, most villainous-looking bikers I had ever
seen. But my fears were quickly dispelled when one of them pointed at the
marker sign and said, "Wow, that's cool!" Bikers can dig history, too, I
guess.
