In the case of the 69th Pa
the line runs from left to right?? G-K-B-E-C-H-D-F-A-I

Do you know if the 69th used this same alignment of companies as their
regular deployment in every battle, or did they vary it according to commanding
officer seniority as per the tactical manual instructions? Brian Pohanka and I
traded thoughts about this matter several times, but only concluded that
practices varied from regiment to regiment, With the 14th Connecticut, for
example, apparently they stuck to a B-G-K-E-H-C-I-D-F-A alignment throughtout the
war, regardless of seniority (this may have had something to do with the
Connecticut Volunteers practice of arming Companies A and B with Sharps
breechloaders as the flank companies).
