GDG- books

Hi,
  I've been reading the many postings regarding books on the Civil War and Gettysburg in particular. At first, I thought it was just a bragging match, but I find it enlightening. It's great to hear what people think is a  worthwhile book.
  This is expecially interesting to me -- an author in the wings.
  I'd really like to know what makes a book outstanding for you as readers.
  I hope to have my book on the shelves next spring (was shooting for this fall, but will have to  wait) I'm going to have to self-publish which I know is a mixed bag in itself. Finding a publisher is harder than writing the book and that has taken 20 years!
  BTW - I have about 400 books, numerous magazines I've saved and the Guild Press OR CD.
  I am looking forward to your comments.
