The Napoleon was often described as having an almost bell-like sound.

The 3" Ordnance Rifle was a more lightly built piece, one reason it was 
often found with "flying artillery" batteries attached to the cavalry.  They 
would sometines lift a wheel when fired, I would suspect due in part to the 
torque from the rifled bore, and would sometimes suffer craked carraiges. 
Some later carraiges were, I believe, reinforced a bit to make them more 
durable.
