GDG- Units history and what has caught my attention.

Mike,

The 3rd MD also was engaged in MacDougall's brigade of the XII Corps,
holding the McAllister's Hill (far right of the Union line, on east side of
Rock Creek) section of the Federal line. Other units in the brigade were
the 5th & 20th CT, 123rd and 145th NY, and 46th PA. This brigade was not
heavily engaged, but performed great service by preventing the Confederates
from moving around the flank of units on Culp's Hill, and the 20th CT was
particularly valuable in spotting for artillery, as well as keeping
"Maryland" Steuart's troops occupied on the SE corner of Pardee's field on
July 3rd.
Monument placement for these units does not accurately reflect the positions
during most of the battle. For instance, the 20th CT was back and forth
across Spangler's Meadow during the fighting, and a proper placement of the
20th's monument would be about where the restrooms are located just west of
Spanglers Spring.

Regards,

Jack Kelly
