Gettysburg's Remembrance Day / Dedication Day
November 17
Remembrance Day Parade - Annual event held in conjunction with the
Gettysburg Address anniversary. A parade of Civil War living history groups
begins at 1:00 p.m. Route follows Lefever St. to E. Confederate Ave., to E.
Middle St., to Baltimore St., to Steinwehr Ave., ending at the entrance to
the Cyclorama parking lot. Sponsored by the Sons of Union Veterans of the

5th Annual Remembrance Illumination, Soldiers’ National Cemetery Sponsored
by the Gettysburg Foundation. The event takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30
p.m. at the Soldiers’ National Cemetery and at the Rupp House on Baltimore
Street. Luminary candles will be placed on each Civil War grave as a
testament to the sacrifices made here in 1863. In addition to the
luminaria, the event includes a Civil War Color Guard, roll call at the
Reynolds Statue, and playing of “Taps” every half-hour. For information

November 19
144th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address - An annual observation
featuring a wreath-laying ceremony at the Soldiers' National Monument at
10:15 a.m., followed by the Dedication Day Ceremony with keynote speakers
U. S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne and novelist Jeff Shaara in
the Soldiers’ National Cemetery (rostrum) at 10:30 a.m. Sponsored by the
Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania, the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg
College, and Gettysburg National Military Park. The rain location is the

Memorial service and graveside ceremony to honor the United States Colored
Troops, in the Soldiers’ National Cemetery. The service will begin after
the Dedication Day Ceremony ends at the gravesite of Pvt. Charles H. Parker
of Company F of the Third Regiment. Author Fergus Bordewich and Ben Hawley,
a reenactor of the 54th Massachusetts, will speak about the USCT, and the
Biglerville American Legion Honor Guard will be present. For more

Annual Fortenbaugh Memorial Lecture , "Lincoln and the Triumph of Politics"
by Richard Norton Smith, scholar-in-residence, School of Public Policy and
Department of History, George Mason University sponsored by the Civil War
Institute and the Department of History at Gettysburg College, at 8:00 p.m.
at the Majestic Theater, 25 Carlisle Street. For more information contact

Ongoing
Visit the Historic Gettysburg Train Station that welcomed President Abraham
Lincoln - Open daily from 10 am to 4 pm. Volunteers interpret the station's
history which began in 1859. President Lincoln arrived in Gettysburg by
train, likely entering the station, on November 18, 1863 to participate in
the dedication ceremonies for the Soldiers' National Cemetery. The facility
opened to the public in November 2006 after a $3 million restoration.
