I just read a newspapaer story about a group of folks from northwest PA who visited Gettysburg. It had a photo of them looking at the boulder that has the inscription about Strong Vincent, the boulder he supposedly stood upon when wounded. This is the boulder that is immediately north of the 44th NY monument. Does anyone know when the inscription was carved?
I once had somebody tell me that Vincent was shot by a Confederate sharpshooter firing from the Devil's Den. I told him that was unlikely, that the fatal shot probably came from the Texans or Alabamians attacking LRT itself. He pointed out to me that the 44th NY monument would have protected Vincent from a shot from that direction, so the deadly bullet had to have come from the west.
