The bookstore run by Eastern National at the Visitor Center has memoirs by
Sarah Broadhead, Charles McCurdy, and Daniel Skelly. I recently found
online Leander Warren's. They are there if you have the patience to look
for them. Enjoy when you do, they are wonderful glimpses into 19th century
Gettysburg.

>> Hi Paula,
>>
>> Yes, it is the same Charles McCurdy. Funny, but after I reread the
>> obituary, I realized that only those of us who have studied the civilians
>> of
>> Gettysburg would even know who this was! Thank you for posting what you
>> did.
>>
>> He was a young boy of 10 years of age at the time of the famous battle
>> and
>> wrote his memoirs as an adult and they are in print. I believe we
>> purchased
>> our copy at the VC a number of years ago.
>>
>> Like you, Lew and I do a ³Civilians of Gettysburg² presentation in
>> Vermont
>> and NH. We¹re members of the NH Humanities Council. Lew portrays Charlie
>> McCurdy and tells about his experiences as a young boy, as well as some
>> of
>> the stories from the other boys his own age. I portray Sarah Broadhead
>> and
>> talk about her experiences and some of the ladies experiences in town
>> just
>> before the battle, during, and for some time after the battle. One aspect
>> of the Battle of Gettysburg most people don¹t know much about.
