Actually, that's not correct. It probably was the understanding, though, at the time that your son gave tours, but it hasn't been the case since 2001.  In 2000, Mark Nesbitt sued the owners of the Farnsworth House ghost tours for copyright infringement. In 2001, Judge Sylvia Rambo ruled that with one exception (a story in which Nesbitt admitted an error was made in the printed version), the stories were in the public domain and, thus, their content could not be copyrighted.  She ruled that Nesbitt could validly copyright his printed presentation of the stories, though.
