I am pasting below a report on the numbers of contrabands in the Cavalry
Corps in August 1863. I am not certain how it will appear but if you want a
clean Word copy, let me know privately.
I am assuming that "public" would be quartermaster corps employees and
"private" ones would be individual servants.
