In addition to newspaper reports in the North like the one that Jeff cited,
correspondents traveling with the ANV also reported on the capturing of
blacks and marching them back south into Virginia.  In other words, as the
ANV was marching northward, shipments were passing them in the opposite
direction that included captured livestock, grain, needed supplies, and
blacks.  These reports appeared in Southern newspapers.
